Roy Lee McCarty was born on April 8, 1945 in Red River County, Texas to the union of the late John and Louise Lewis-McCarty. He attended Detroit Public School. He was a member of Pine Hill Baptist Church in Kanawha, Texas.

He enlisted into the United States Army in 1966 where he spent one year  serving in Vietnam.

In 1967 Roy married the love of his life Ruby Johnson-McCarty and to this union three children were born. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, whom he loved to no end. He enjoyed farming and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved teaching them the rural way of living life. Along with spending time with his family he took pride in caring for his "Big Baby",     Cindy.

He was preceded in death along side his parents, (2) siblings: Vernon McCarty and General McCarty, brother-in-law Eugene Braxton, mother-in-law Rosetta Johnson and father-in-law Aaron Johnson.

Roy's love will forever be cherished by his devoted wife of 56 years Ruby McCarty; (3) children: Delois McCarty, Derek (Pamela) McCarty and Cindy McCarty; (5) grandchildren: Kameka Savage, Shameka (Brandon Ray) Savage, Quintessa Savage, Shaderika McCarty and Derek "DJ" McCarty; (12) great grandchildren: Quiniya, Garrius, Brayden, Zaiden, Janya, Kamari, Kameron "KJ", Patience, Serenity, Kamden, Bronson and Khyrie; (1) great-great grandchild Aziah; a special cousin Dollie Lattimore along with other relatives and friends that will miss him dearly.
