Ms. Rena Pearl Whiturs was born to the parentage of Mr. Bennie “Turkey” Whiturs and Mrs. Rosa Carwile Whiturs on July 16, 1958, in Dallas, TX. Rena accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized into the family of God as His child at Greater Rock of Ages Missionary Baptist Church under Rev. E.J. Booker. As a faithful member she sang in the choir and was a junior usher. She later joined St. Paul AME in Rockwall, Tx under Rev. Joe L. Robbins. She recently attended services at Cornerstone Baptist Church in South Dallas. She attended schools in the Dallas Independent School District. While Rena never had children of her own, she was a bonus Mom to all her nieces and nephews, and had a special bond with her niece Shunetria.
Rena worked in hospitality, as well as a Home Health Aide. She was employed seasonally with the State Fair of Texas for over 20 years. She was strong-willed, outspoken, and lived life in her own way without worrying too much about what others thought. She was resilient and faced challenging times head-on. When things got tough, she was not afraid to reach out for help. Rena had a generous heart and genuinely liked helping people whenever she could. Those who knew her will remember her honesty, her presence, and the way she showed up for others, even when life was not easy for her.
She is predeceased by both parents, her bonus Dad, Luther Harris Sr., a brother, Steven Harris Sr., three nephews: Aldric, LeKendric and Brandon, two nieces: Andretta and Cassandra.
Rena leaves to cherish her memories a brother Luther Harris Jr of Dallas, Tx; four sisters: Margaret Wills (John) of Dallas,Tx, Andrea Whiturs of Jacksonville, Beverly Harris of Dallas, TX and Elizabeth “Yvette” Davis (Eddie) of Mesquite, TX along with several nephews and nieces whom she loved dearly; a special friend Dennis Williams, her Bestie Leatrice Morris as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
