Paul Butler was born on December 19, 1959, in Paris, Texas, to the late Juanell Jenkins and RL Jenkins. At an early age, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and remained steadfast in his faith throughout his life. He was a member of Solid Rock and St. Paul’s Baptist Church. Above all else, Paul cherished his family, who meant everything to him.
He attended Powderly Elementary and graduated from North Lamar High School in 1978. During his school years, he proudly represented the Panthers on both the basketball and football teams. His love for sports continued throughout his life, and he found great joy in coaching youth soccer, basketball, and football teams at the Boys & Girls Club. A devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Paul enthusiastically supported his team with the signature phrase, “We dem boyz!”
Known for his strong work ethic, Paul held supervisory positions at Sara Lee, Earth Grains, Panera Breads, and We Pack. He was also a gifted master craftsman who specialized in cabinet making. Self-taught and highly skilled, Paul took great pride in his work, creating each piece with excellence and precision. His craftmanship was a God-given talent, and his work reflected his dedication and attention to detail.
Paul was deeply committed to his community and served as president of the “No More Violence Organization” in Paris, Texas, where he worked to inspire positive change.
Paul was a beloved son, brother, uncle, father, grandfather, and loyal friend. He loved his children beyond measure and was a guiding force in the lives of his nieces and nephews, who admired and looked up to him. He answered to several names dear to him, Bubba, and PaPa. As the only brother among five siblings, Paul holds a special place in each of his sister’s hearts.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Juanell Jenkins, his grandparents, W.H. Washington and Mattie Washington; and his grandmother, Wonder Morgan.
Paul leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Shannon; blessed with (2) step-sons: Ryan Butler-McCray and Zach Johnson; his beloved grandchildren: Zy’Karia and Za’Nya Butler; and one grandson, Ta’Quan Davis; his father, R. L. Jenkins; (4) sisters: Brenda Cann (Sly), JoAnn Maloy (Robert), Jean Burton (Andre), and Donnise Williams (John); (4) nieces: LaKisha Turner (Jimmy), Tamekia Stallard (Jason), Brooke Williams, Ashley Gallacher (Steve), (4) Glenn Nelson, Sylvester Cann, IV (Ellen), Darmetric Maloy (Jamie), and Daniel Israel (Adiar), along with a host of extended family members and dear friends.
Paul’s legacy of love, faith, hard working, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
