Lavon "Bunny" Melson was preceded in death by her husband, James Melson; her parents, Almon and Rossie Lee Sikes; her beloved daughter, Rita Sikes; her siblings, Henry Sikes, Almond Sikes, and Linda Sikes; and her grandson, Darryl Sikes Jr.

Lavon "Bunny" Melson, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and daughter, peacefully passed away on January 27, 2025, at the age of 73 after bravely battling cancer. She is survived by her two sons, Kevin Sikes (Kimberly Sikes) and Darryl Sikes; her grandchildren, Chevella Reynolds, Chyna Howard, Deja Sikes, Nichole Sikes, and Kevin "KJay" Sikes Jr.; her great-grandchildren, Ke'shawn Hardin, Marissa McDonald, Ramon McDonald, Jordyn Owens, Julius Owens, Terisa Trevino, Orladrian Pizarro Jr., Deon L. Williams and Malik Barker Jr.; and her siblings, Percy Sikes (Carol Sikes), Tommie Lee Sikes, Tyrone Sikes, Raymond Sikes, Edward Sikes, Anthony Sikes, Kenneth Sikes, and Lisa Sikes and a host of nieces and nephews and dear friends.

Lavon will be fondly remembered for her infectious laughter, her unwavering love and support for her family, and her unmatched skills as one of the best spades players around (no debate needed). She loved cooking for her family, dancing with her children, and most of all, enjoying the warmth of her loved ones. Her presence and joy will be deeply missed, as she was loved by so many.
