Katie
Mcafee
Oct 18, 1949 — Nov 4, 2025
Katie Mae McAfee was born October 18, 1949, but celebrated her birthday on November 14th. To her parents Bennie R. King and Emma Kate Castell of Nevada, Texas, there were 13 children born and 2 adopted children. The family moved from Nevada, Texas, to Dallas, Texas, and the children attended school in the Dallas Independent School District. Katie earned her GED and went on to pursue a career in Nutrition Services. After many years of service, she retired in 2009 from Dallas ISD.
In her community, Katie Mae joined Great Ideal Baptist Church at an early age. In 1972, she and her 4 children (Andre, Jerry, Eric, and Sonya) united with Christian Workers Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Elmo Stewart, Rev. Thelma Harris, Rev. E. L. Thomas, and later Pastor Freddie King. Katie was a faithful and dedicated member, serving the church as Secretary, Mission President, Youth Director, and the Unity District Youth Director.
In 1984, Katie met and married the love of her life – Mr. Eugene (Bud) McAfee Jr. They were united in holy matrimony in 1991, forming a blended family with Katie's 4 children and Eugene's 2 children (Eugene and Lovie). Katie and Eugene Jr. spent significant time going fishing, playing dominoes, and taking care of one another until God called Eugene home in 2011.
Katie Mae departed this earth on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, in the quietness of her home. She has joined her husband Bud as they both rest in the heavenly kingdom of God.
Katie is preceded in death by her parents (Bennie King Sr. and Emma Kate King-Casteel); husband (Eugene McAfee Jr.); 8 siblings (brothers – Curtis Lewis, Bennie King Jr., Louis King, and Tommy King; sisters – Mary Jackson, Lila Curling, Darcine Bowman, and Virginia (Tina) King; 2 grandchildren (Brittany Pichon and Christopher Pichon II); and 1 great-grandchild (Jailon Booker).
Katie Mae leaves to cherish her loving memory 6 siblings (brothers – Jessie King, Jimmy King, and Freddie King [Vera]; sisters Ollie King, Catherine King, and Teresa King); 5 children (sons – Andre King [Rebecca], Jerry Allen, and Eric Allen, and Eugene Brown; daughters – Dr. Sonya Pichon [Dr. Christopher Pichon Sr.], and Lovie Robertson); 25 grand-children and great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends, and 1 great-great grandchild Marquese.
Katie was deeply loved and will be truly missed, as she was affectionately called "Grandmother" or "Aunt Kaye." Everyone loved her famous peach cobbler and cornbread dressing, as the tastes were amazing. Katie was definitely one of God's chosen servants who ministered to the hearts, souls, and stomachs of others. Her legacy will live forever.
