Obituary

Heather Lynn Davis, affectionately known in the arts community as "Kat Davis," was born on December 19, 1987 with the given name of Kathryn Carshell Balfour in Dallas, Texas to Ledyard and Yvonne Balfour Hopkins and was also the beloved daughter of Bennie Davis and Geraldine H. Davis-Baker, who lovingly nurtured and shaped her life. From an early age, Heather exhibited a spirit of kindness, determination, creativity, and unwavering faith that would become the hallmark of her life's journey.

At an early age, Heather accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, where she was a member of East Garland Church of God in Christ, where she faithfully served as a psalmist, worship leader, and youth facilitator. Later, she became an active member of Abundant Grace Church, where she continued to use her God-given gifts through the music ministry. Heather's faith was not merely something she professed; it was the firm foundation upon which she built her life and the guiding light she shared with everyone she encountered.

Heather received her formal education through the Garland Independent School District and later continued her studies at Dallas College.

Beyond her many accomplishments, Heather was known for her deep love of family and children, her unwavering faith, her infectious laughter, her compassionate heart, her gift of hospitality through cooking, and her inspiring poetry. Music was woven into the fabric of her life. Whether singing, writing songs, or playing music, she used her God-given gifts to uplift hearts and glorify God.

Family was among Heather's greatest treasures. She cherished every opportunity to gather with loved ones, celebrate life's milestones, and encourage others. Through her voice and ministry in song, she reminded countless people of God's enduring love, grace, and faithfulness.

Heather was preceded in death by her parents, Bennie Davis and Geraldine H. Davis-Baker; her grandmothers, Kathryn Stephenson and Mabel Balfour; and her beloved daughter, Joy Shannon.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory her beloved children, Heaven, Mercy, and King; their father, Bert Shannon; her birth parents, Ledyard and Yvonne Balfour Hopkins; her Balfour-Hopkins siblings, Shantayla, Ledeatra, Trista, Chanda, Deverend, Coette; her Hayes-Davis siblings, Jerome, Freddie, John, Carmarion, Cornelius, and Derrick; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and cherished friends whose lives were forever touched by her love.

Though our hearts grieve this earthly separation, we rejoice in the blessed assurance that "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." Heather leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, perseverance, creativity, and compassion that will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her. Her song may have ended on earth, but its melody will echo in our hearts for generations to come.
