Rev. Dr. Gerald Lynn Davis, a devoted husband, loving son, cherished brother, uncle, and "Pawpaw" to some, entered this world with a zeal for life on July 9, 1958, in Houston, Texas. As the fourth child of nine Willie George and Fannie Jean Davis, he and his twin sister were part of a large, loving family. Gerald was revered as the Davis Family Priest, an Engineer, Counselor, Entrepreneur, "Pit Master," Project manager, Minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and most importantly, a beloved child of the Most High God, a title he held closest to his heart.
Rev. Davis was a product of the Houston Independent School District, where he excelled academically and actively participated in football, track and field, the school band, and various student organizations. He graduated from Ross Shaw Sterling High School serving as Vice-President of the Class of 1976. With a deep passion for learning, Rev. Davis pursued higher education with dedication, earning a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and became a proud member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
Rev. Davis began his Christian discipleship at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. He served in leadership roles in the Youth ministries such as choir, usher board, Junior deacon, and Boy Scouts. Those youthful years also allowed him to be a part of The Houston City-Wide Crusade Choir, community bands, and football teams. His spiritual calling stimulated him to enroll in Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he obtained his master's degree. He received his Doctor of Ministry at Hardin-Simmons University, Logsdon Seminary. He served as the Director of Real Estate and Acquisitions for the Cornerstone Community Development Corporation, Inc., where his leadership and vision were instrumental.
Rev. Davis dedicated many years of his life to working with the Baptist General Convention of Texas and the Texas Baptist Men Disaster Relief, sharing his skills and faith to make a difference in countless lives. He was also a professor at D. Edwin Johnson and a certified counselor for the "Together in Texas" program. Presently, he teaches on Tuesdays at Dallas Bible Theological Institute. For 36 years, Rev. Davis faithfully served as an Associate Minister at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, under the leadership and mentorship of Rev. Chris Simmons. This guidance enabled him to find and lead several impactful ministries, including Grief Share, Shalom Builders of Texas, Shalom Finances, and the Cornerstone Community Development Corporation, Inc. He also established the church's IT Department and programs in Cornerstone Outreach and Youth and Premarital Counseling. Rev. Simmons's mentorship and encouragement were pivotal, allowing Gerald to implement holistic ministries that profoundly impacted both Cornerstone and the South Dallas community.
Gerald's beloved wife of 37 years, Rhonda Davis, was his steadfast partner, friend, rib, and source of encouragement throughout his journey. Gerald often credited Rhonda's unwavering support as a key factor in his ability to better serve God, his church, and the South Dallas community. Rev. Davis's life was a testament to his faith, resilience, and devotion to serving others.
