Obituary

Eunice Small-Gray was born on Saturday, June 24, 1933, to Ben Small and Julia Russell- Small in Panola County, Texas. Her father Ben, died in 1936, when she was three years old. Her mother, Julia would later marry Charles Williams, lovingly referred to as "Papa". Eunice was raised in a Christian home with her siblings, Travis, Ethel, Thelma, Mollie, Yvonne and nephew Leon. Eunice accepted God as her Lord and Savior early in life. In her youth, she attended St. Mary's Baptist Church in Marshall, Texas.

Eunice graduated from Pemberton High School. On October 28, 1951, she married Eddie Lee Gray. They began their family in Marshall, Texas but relocated to Dallas, Texas. To this union, four children were born, James Harrell (b.1952 - d.2009), Jessica Germaine (b.1954), Bennie Ray (b.1956) and LaFondra Denise (b.1962).

Upon settling in Dallas, the couple moved to the West Dallas community before purchasing their first home (on Briarcliff Rd) in the Arlington Park community. The couple would reside in the neighborhood until 1979 when they relocated to 2446 Matland Drive in Oak Cliff.

Eunice was a proud housewife and over the years assisted her husband with different family businesses, but her pride and joy was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She served as a Deaconess at Bexar Street Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas under the leadership of Dr. Rev. CC Robertson. After the passing of her beloved pastor and her friend, he remained a member until her death, in which Pastor Andrew Jackson is now leading.  Eunice and Eddie celebrated 68 years of marital bliss until Eddie's death in April 2020.

Eunice often recalled her childhood to her family. She talked about riding to town in Papa's horse and carriage to run errands, stories of "Big Day", and told funny stories of her cow named Sherry. In her leisure, she enjoyed Bible study, singing church hymns, peanut butter, Reese's Cups and 3 Musketeers candies, puzzles, Dominoes, Bingo, and Pokeno.

In the early morning of July 25, 2025, Eunice transitioned from this temporary life to eternal life. She is no longer in physical pain in her body and now only knows peace with the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.

Eunice was proceeded in death by her parents, her siblings, her husband, Eddie, her eldest son, James, and great-grandson, baby Derrick, Jr.

Her legacy lives on through her loving children: Jessica Gray-Lovings, Bennie Gray (Serita), and LaFondra Brooks (Reginald, Sr.), sister in laws, Wilma "Frances" Chinn (Johnny) and Betty Lou Davis. Grandchildren: Derrick Gray (Tamiko), Garry Allen (Mia), Christie Adams (Jamal Sr.), Desure'e Sheppard, James T.
