Sep 20, 1961 — May 2, 2023
Derrick W. Green was born on September 20, 1961 in Dallas, Texas to the union of Pastor Watson and JoAnn Cartright Green. He was the second of 3 children. Derrick received his formal education in the Dallas Independent School District where he graduated from Franklin D. Roosevelt High School. Following High School, Derrick joined the US Navy and later furthered his education at Berkley College in California where he studied mathematics, graphic designs and blueprints.
Derrick accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at an early age. He was baptized at Fellowship Baptist Church (Dallas) under the leadership of the late Pastor Sammie Davis, Sr. where he served in many ministries, including the choir. He later joined the Star of the Late Dr. John A. Davis and Pastor Elect Dr. Thomas Minter. Under Pastor Davis' leadership, Derrick served as president of the brotherhood and Director of the Youth Ministry. He was also a faithful member of the Men's Choir, the Adult Choir and a Youth Mentor. In November 2013, Derrick was Vivian remained at "The Rest", serving under Senior Pastor Carlos D. Williams. Derrick met the love of his life in 1995 while singing next to her in the Vision Gospel Group. Little did he know that she would become his wife for 26 years!
Derrick was a lover of Christ, people and life, as exuded in his work inside and outside of the church. He was a true servant! Derrick shared Christ everywhere he went and with anyone who would listen. Derrick was an encourager to all and had a passion for working with youth and young adults. His positive attitude touched the hearts of many. Derrick was especially loved by the doctors, nurses and staff who cared for him as he touched their lives through the word of God, even at, what man would call, his lowest time. He lived by his motto "Kingdom Building".
Derrick is preceded in death by his parents, Watson and Joann Green and brother Raymond Green.
